When it comes to rugby sports betting, we’ve pulled out all the stops to give you the best experience. Here are some of the best rugby leagues and international tournaments for UK players to bet on:
There are many different rugby leagues within the UK and the top division for rugby in England is the Gallagher Premiership. Containing 12 clubs, the top placing teams in this division also qualify for European tournaments including the European Rugby Champions Cup and the European Rugby Challenge Cup. Some of the top teams in the Premiership include Exeter Chiefs, Wasps and Harlequins.
Unlike its name suggests, the Guinness Pro14 actually has sixteen teams taking part from Ireland, Wales, Scotland, South Africa and Italy.
This is a newer event in the grand scheme of rugby as it was founded in 2001. Despite its relative newness, this annual competition has grown massively in popularity. Since its inception, the Irish team, Leinster have been the most successful followed by the Ospreys from Wales.
The RFU Championship is the second-tier English rugby union league. Similar to the Gallagher Premiership, this event was founded in 1987 and has undergone a lot of changes since then. Previously known as National Division One until the format changed in 2009 and the semi-professional clubs involved became professional. Although some have returned to operating on a semi-professional basis since.
There are eleven teams involved in the Championship. Depending on their performance, and on meeting certain criteria set by the RFU, it is possible for teams to be promoted into the Gallagher Premiership. Similarly, it is possible for teams to be relegated to the RFU Championship. For the 2020-21 seasons Saracens were relegated after being docked 70 points for infringement of the salary cap rules in previous years.
Arguably the most popular annual events in the international rugby union calendar. The Six Nations provides a yearly spectacle as the four home nations — Wales, Ireland, Scotland and England are joined by France and Italy to battle it out over during February and March.
In a six-week tournament, each team will face the others in just one game. Points are awarded for a win, loss or draw. Bonus points are awarded for 4 tries scored and a loss of 7 points or less. These points can really make the difference toward the end of the championship, although 3 points are awarded to any team that remains unbeaten, to ensure that a Grand Slam winning team doesn’t lose out on the title.
While winning the 6 Nations is the primary goal, and avoiding the Wooden Spoon is next (coming in last place), getting the Grand Slam is the dream. To get the Grand Slam team a team just needs to win each of its 5 matches; a feat that is not often achieved. The first and most recent Grand Slam winners are Wales, initially in 1908 when the tournament was called the Five Nations, and most recently in 2019. England currently have the most Grand Slam wins with 13.
Within the tournament, there are a number of other mini cups and trophies between specific teams too. The Calcutta Cup for the England v Scotland game was first awarded in 1879 and has been played for well over 100 times since. The Triple Crown is awarded to any one home nation team that beats all of the other three.
This is a brand new event created at the end of 2020. Usually, there are Autumn test games where countries such as New Zealand, Argentina and South Africa visit the UK to play the home teams. However, with recent events, this new tournament was created. It is unclear whether this event will become a permanent rugby fixture.
The Southern Hemisphere equivalent to the Six Nations is The Rugby Championship. Previously known as the Tri-Nations, this event takes place yearly amongst New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and Argentina.
Unlike the Six Nations, teams play each other more than once, usually having a home and an away fixture against each opponent but the points system is very similar to the Six Nations. Currently, New Zealand has had the greatest success winning this with an impressive 17 titles.
Every four years, players eligible for the four home nation’s national teams come together to form a super team, the British and Irish Lions. This exciting rugby tour event was founded way back in 1888 and has been running ever since.
A coach is chosen in the Lions’ year, and they subsequently choose their team based on the form of players. This team then goes on tour to play a three-game series against their opponents from one country. Every four years the opponent alternates between New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.
However, not only do the Lions team compete in a three-game series against the International side, they will also tour the country as well. This means they will play a number of the top local club teams as well, resulting in a great set of rugby games.
Without a doubt, the biggest event in rugby union is the Rugby World Cup. In fact, it's one of the most-watched sporting events in the world. Similar to the Lions, this takes place every four years, two years after (or before) the next Lions tour.
This event is held in a different country each time, with the host country ramping up its stadiums in preparation. The top 20 international teams take part, with teams that got through to the quarter-finals in the previous cup year automatically qualifying. Lower level teams will have to battle it out in the two years prior to the next World Cup in order to secure their place.
At this time, New Zealand and South Africa have both taken the Webb Ellis Trophy home three times each, with South Africa being the current reigning champions. England is the only Northern Hemisphere team to have won the title, way back in 2003.

Different Betting Markets when Betting on Rugby
This allows you to bet on the overall outcome of a game — i.e., whether the game will end in a Home win, Away win, or Draw. With three different outcomes, the odds for this market are not too high, nor too low.
This allows you to bet on whether both teams will score in a given match. As a result, there are only two possible outcomes — Yes or No.
Double chance involves wagering on two of the three outcomes. Instead of just backing a team to win, you can also back the draw, but the odds will be lower. The double chance bet has all the possible combinations, so you are free to choose any two outcomes.
In this market, the player places a bet on both the half-time score and the full-time score. Instead of the normal 3 outcomes, we here sit with 9 potential results and this is reflected in the odds on offer. If you think the match will end with a win to the away team, but a draw at half-time, you have to place your bet as “X2”.
This market consists of only two outcomes: a Home win or an Away win. If the match results in a draw, your money is returned as if nothing had happened.
This is handicap betting as we all know it. But instead of just offering you the chance to back either team to come out on top, you can also bet on the handicap draw.
In this bet, you need to focus on how many tries will be scored, just in a slightly different way. Instead of betting on whether the total number of tries scored will be over or under a specified total, you’re betting on an exact range of tries to be scored.
While football is still the number one sport in the UK, rugby has a massive following too. This is particularly because all the home nations have their own, quite successful international team. This does mean that Casumo provides a wide scope for rugby betting. If you're an avid Rugby fan, you'll be delighted to discover that Casumo has events running almost daily and weekly. The busiest times are during spring when the big Northern hemisphere tournaments start.
