As we know, this year is going to be completely different regarding the World Cup. It will be happening in November and December 2022. Qatar won the bid to host it, so they automatically are the head of their group, Group A. They will be playing their first group stage game on the 21st of November.
Although Qatar is the host nation, it is not a famous footballing nation. They have never qualified for a World Cup in the past. But since they are the host nation, they automatically have a spot in the competition. There is much anticipation for this tournament, mainly because it is like no other that has happened before. It will occur during the winter months when club football is still playing. This will be very different for all players and teams, which will likely make the tournament more engrossing.
The World Cup is known for drama, great football, and a good underdog story. Usually, one or two teams do better than expected, and it will be exciting to watch the action unfold this year. France is the current holder of the famous trophy after they won in 2018 against Croatia in Russia. They are still among the favorites for this year's event, alongside teams like Germany and England.
Qatar is preparing heavily to host this year's World Cup. They are building new stadiums and renovating their old ones to look outstanding. The tournament will undoubtedly attract as many fans and supporters as possible. It will be good to see a different country host it.
Since the World Cup draw has not taken place yet, it is impossible to tell which teams will join Qatar in Group A. Presently, only 13 teams have qualified for the competition, with 19 remaining from Europe, North America, Africa, and possibly Australia. Teams like Portugal, Italy, Wales, Scotland, and Sweden are still battling to secure a spot. Any team can be in Group A.
Since we are still several months away from the competition, there is no need to conclude which will qualify or who will not. However, once all 32 teams qualify, there will be a draw to place them into each group.
The draw will take place sometime in April, where all teams will be placed in four pots according to their FIFA rankings and divided into eight groups, A to H. As usual, the two top teams of each group will progress to the next round, the Round of 16. Group A's winner will face Group B's runner-up, while the winner of Group B will face the runner-up of Group A. The same applies to the remaining groups.
In the second knockout round, which is the Quarterfinals, the first match winner will play the second match-winner, and so on. This occurs till the final match, where the champion lifts the cup.
Once the draw happens, you can count on us to update the team's odds and provide you with the latest information.
Obviously, we are unsure of the placement of teams into Group A until the draw takes place in April. The only team that is sure will be in the group is Qatar as the host nation. Despite that, we can tell for sure at the moment that the first game of the group will happen on the 21st of November. This will be a match between Qatar and one of the teams in the group.
Once the group stage matches are completed, the Round of 16 will commence on the 3rd till the 6th of December. This will be followed by the quarter-finals that will start on the 9th of December. As for the semi-finals, the games will be played on the 13th and 14th of December. The third-place playoff will take place on the 17th of December. Lastly, the tournament's final will be played on the 18th of December where the champion will be crowned.
Regardless of the teams that progress in Group A, one thing is sure; the World Cup 2022 will be an entertaining one to watch. Why not follow us for more updates about Group A and other World Cup information.
