Stars of Orion

Orion is one of the most famous constellations in the night sky. It’s also one of the most fascinating and has a complex mythology. For instance, Muslim scholars called Orion “the Giant” and referred to the brightest star as his sword. To the Greeks, Orion was a hunter who Gaia tried to kill with a scorpion. In Indian mythology, it was everything from a deer to a dancer. All the beauty of this constellation and the mythology that surrounds it comes together in the Stars of Orion slot. Created by Elk Studios, it features a huge game screen and some brightly coloured symbols. But just like the enigmatic stars themselves, there’s much more to this slot than appearances might suggest.

What is the Stars of Orion Slot?

The Stars of Orion slot takes place against the backdrop of a night sky, with several stone structures similar to those seen at Stonehenge. The game reels use hexagonal clusters and span a 6x8 grid. The symbols on this grid include the classic Seven, which has featured on countless slots over the years. There are also colourful animal illustrations etched on golden coins, including a Red Deer, Blue Wolf, and Green Bird. These are the main game symbols and reward the biggest payouts. You need at least 5 of them in a cluster to win with the biggest payouts coming when you match 15. There are also four smaller symbols represented by Red, Blue, Green, and Purple circles. Other features include:
  •       Cluster Pays and Drops
  •       Orion’s Wilds
  •       Bonus Drops
  •       Super Bonus Drops
  •       Magic Meter Multipliers
  •       Persistent Meter Multipliers
  •       Symbol Swap
Click the icon represented by a stack of coins to change your wager. You can go as low as £0.20 and as high as £100. At the highest stake level, Stars of Orion has a max payout of £1 million.

Stars of Orion Features

Many of the features on Stars of Orion are tied to the base game, so you don’t need to collect special symbols or trigger random events to unlock them. There are a few unlockables though. See below for more information:

Cluster Pays and Drops

As you might have guessed from the oddly shaped rows, there are no traditional paylines on Stars of Orion. Instead, it uses a Cluster Pays mechanic. This means that wins are created from connecting “clusters” of symbols. You need 5 or more of a single symbol type to be touching, and the more touching symbols there are, the bigger the payout will be. And that’s not all. Every time you trigger a payout, the triggering symbols will disappear, vanishing into the cosmos. All other instances of that symbol will also disappear from the reels, regardless of how many there are or whether they form clusters or not. For instance, if you reveal a cluster of 5 Reds and 10 Blues, both of these clusters will vanish and all Blue and Red symbols will follow. Once all wins have triggered, new symbols drop down from above. If you keep winning, those drops will keep triggering.

Magic Meter

If you look to the right of the reels, you’ll see a little meter. This increases every time a winning cluster is revealed. When the meter fills, a Multiplier is added to the reels, beginning at 2x, and increasing all of the way to 64x. These progressions are marked by different coloured gems shown on the meter. Meter growth is determined by the size of the wins, as opposed to how many wins there are. A cluster of 5 matching symbols will increase it slightly, but if you get a big win with over 10 symbols, it’ll fill most of the way.

Wilds and Super Symbols

The symbol with the “W” inside is the Wild, and it’s one of the strongest in the game as it substitutes for all of the main game symbols. If you get 4 matching connections and a Wild, it will payout as if you had 5. The Super Symbol is just as important. This “7” icon can spread after creating winning clusters, merging into even bigger clusters There are also Orion Wilds, which form connections in the shape of the Orion constellation.

Bonus Drops

The Bonus symbol is the little “B” icon, and you need three of these to launch 10 Bonus Spins. There is also a Super Bonus symbol, depicted by a red B. Both of these symbols activate Bonus Drops, but the Super Bonus is more likely to trigger Super Symbols.
